Take it easy after delivery. Don't try to push yourself. Rest to avoid setbacks in your recovery.
Week 1 stay in your bed
Week 2 stay around your bed
Week 3 stay around your house
Week 4 stay around your neighborhood
Sleep when baby sleeps. No seriously, sleep when baby sleeps. The dishes can wait, the laundry can wait but you need to sleep.
Some days baby will eat alot, some days baby will sleep alot, every day is different...it doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong.
As a new mama, you will need all the info and help you can get. I highly recommend you check your local hospital for free classes. I took an awesommme lactation class for FREE at my local hospital that taught me alot of things i didn't know...its great to take these classes even before baby arrives.
You are going through a whole new world of experiences, take it one day at a time and remember the days are long but the days are short. Enjoy it because time flies and babies grow so fast!
Having mama friends keeps you sane, it will help you realize you are not alone or failing.
Learn to accept things as they are, not as they were before you had a baby or as you thought they would be. Do what you can and everything else can wait.
Sleep when baby sleeps. No seriously, sleep when baby sleeps. The dishes can wait, the laundry can wait but you need to sleep. I know you already read this above but in case you missed it I included it again because this is so important. I didn't do this those first months and I definitely paid the price. Lack of sleep will affect you mentally and physically...SLEEP!
It took you 9 months to gain that weight, don't expect to lose it in a month.
I know things will be hectic but take the time to celebrate each month your baby's birthday. On the day your baby was born, each month do a little something. You will forget all the work and sleepless nights but you will have these memories to treasure forever. I know people that cut a cupcake each month, others cut a cake, others take a pic in the same spot, in the crib, on a chair, on a blanket announcing the baby's months. We choose to take a pic of our baby next to that stuffed bear we got her so we can see how she grows month by month, next to the bear.
I know how busy your day is being a new mom, but everyone has 1 sec! I had a couple mom friends recommend this app, they used it to track their baby's first year of life so I downloaded it too. You record one second a day, every day! I am using it to record my baby's first year of life just like my friends did. Everything changes so quickly that I think this app is a great way to track, record and remember those precious moments in your new life as mom. Check it out!
Being a mama can be overwhelming but just remember everything is a phase. The no sleeping is a phase, the rocking baby to sleep is a phase, the only relying on you for everything is a phase....everything is just a phase for a limited time so try to enjoy each phase without getting overwhelmed.
